Karam Yudh is the story of an inspirational, honest political leader and an upright, dedicated police officer. The ethos and nuances of the subject is contemporary in nature. It’s a story of the changing social scenario, the mindset of the people at large, the conflict between family and values of changing fortunes and fortitude. The main protagonists of the story are Yashwant and Shivangi Chauhan.
Shivangi Chauhan, an Dupty Commissioner of Police also reveals strong virtues of her personality while going through the troubled times in her carrier and home front. Even in such times she shoulders all her responsibilities as wife, daughter-in-law, mother and a police officer. Through her character one has tried to capture the essence of a complete progressive Indian woman. Female characters play a very important role all through the story, because they have to go through every situation- happy, unhappy, trauma, etc. which are faced by their men folk.
Yashwant Chauhan is a leader with innate qualities; he rapidly rose from a student leader to becoming the Deputy Home Minister of some State. Through his character and the situations and circumstances which surround him, it has been tried to convey that you can emerge as a victor even if you have to go through extreme adverse conditions. If one has ethics, values and commitments one can be triumphant against all odds.
Another important aspect is an interesting one. Our country and politics is interlinked to the point of obsession. Each and everyone is a political commentator but very few who are in the know how of things come forward to take the responsibility. They do not want to step out from their cushioned environs. To be a fence-sitter and a critic is rather too- easy, to be in the thick of the things is perhaps different. The character of ‘Yashwant’ is an ‘inspirational’ one. It sends the message that more of able young persons should actively participate in the mainstream of nation building, for it is these young people who would take India to generation next and make the country stand out among others.
Furthermore, the duo of husband and wife i.e. the Deputy Home Minister Yashwant and the Dupty Commissioner of Police Shivangi have been shown going through some testing times in their lives but they did not yield to the circumstances. Yashwant gracefully shoulders his responsibility as a son, a husband, a father and a politician.
Democracy in itself is a system which not only gives liberty to its subjects in various field but also has inherent contradictions. Some people of course take un due advantages of this freedom but they are not always voice of the masses or representatives of majority or the judges of a particular political system. There is politics and real politik. Subsequently there is clash between idealism and a practical approach to the various problems.
Duty, values, responsibilities, ethics – these terminologies are so easy to say but are not that easy to adhere by, in the present social environment. That is why through the medium of this tele -serial we are trying to make an attempt to make the people aware about the huge difference in tackling the problems which are family oriented and that of the country.
Doordarshan has always been a strong platform to voice social concerns. The story of Karam Yudh is not just about one ‘Yashwant’ or ‘Shivangi’ but there are many of them who are well aware of their duties, ethics and morality but have to face stiff opposition due to changed circumstances and situations. Karam Yudh is an endeavour to make people understand that everyone of us should adhere to the principles and value, be aware of the responsibilities.
